Books and Instruments
When purchasing and/or ordering a book, instrument, or supplies from CMS please understand that we have several orders. It does take time to place the order, and wait for it to arrive. We do our best to provide you a quick and timely turn around service but there are several factors out of our control (i.g. shipping times, weather). Delivery of purchased items will arrive no sooner than 20-30 days from purchase date unless otherwise specified by a manager.
Practice, Homework, and Books
Students must practice the homework the teacher gives them from each lesson for the week. It is very important to bring your book to class EVERY WEEK. If your book was lost or misplaced, let a teacher know ASAP and we would be happy to help you purchase a new book. This is to ensure that the student learns and improves as they continue with their musical journey with Cortez Piano Lessons. If the student is a child, parents please make sure that they practice for a minimum of 10 minutes daily to ensure they are building and creating the discipline needed to be successful in their music. Playing an instrument needs to be a daily habit, not just a weekly class. The teachers at CMS are not to be held liable or responsible for the students ability or inability to improve. That is solely up to the student and/or parent and the motivation that they continue on with at home. We are here to give the tools and resources needed to learn, the rest is up to you!
Principles and Values
We are a faith-based music school that welcomes EVERYONE no mater the age, race, ethnicity, or gender. However, we honor Biblical principles and values and see God the Father and Jesus Christ as the main head of this institution. We do play and teach music of all kinds (classical, country, contemporary, etc.), however we specialize in teaching our students how to worship. We do not and will not play or teach music that is contradictory to the word of God, that is derogatory, demeaning, or disdainful.
Drop Off
We understand that parents are busy and may have errands to run, however CMS is not to be treated as a daycare. 1 parent and/or guardian is REQUIRED to stay with the student AT ALL TIMES. Parents and/or guardians are more than welcome to wait in our waiting area, or even in their car, but children under the age of 18 are not to be left alone at CMS during their music lesson unless previous arrangement has been made with the manager.
Helicopter Parents
We know parents are excited and want to be involved with their child's lessons and musical developments but we do ask for parents to wait in our waiting area or in their car during the lessons. This allow's our teachers to be able to reach the children on a personal level. We need our parents to be able to step away for a few moments so the child can become comfortable and open. We want to build a personal relationship with each student. The last 5 minutes of the lesson is reserved to be able to go over homework with the student and/or parent and at that point the parent can ask questions, record whatever is needed, and share any concerns.
Damage, Quietness, and Loss of Property
Property damage is something we hope to not encounter much of. Everything at CMS is valuable and is purchased to create a fun and inviting atmosphere. Our hope is that all our students can enjoy our games, drawing table, and other activities we have during all lessons, events, and recitals. We kindly ask that parents keep children in line of being respectful and quiet while lessons are taking place. If we see that something has been stolen, abused, and or broken we kindly ask the parent and/or student to return and/or replace the item or to pay CMS for the value of the item(s). We also ask that all parents, guardians, and siblings remain quiet while in the studio during lessons as to not be a distraction to our students and teachers.
